Application in Hospital of Guangxi Region

 Background
C/S structure of the legacy system in Hospital system of GUANGXI region causes the problems below:
1. The large network traffic flow brings the network jam. To widen the network means to increase the cost.
2 .Low security: multiple input devices may bring virus intrusion of the total system. Network anti-virus software with high low also occupies the system source.
3. Troublesome Maintenance of both software and hardware brings more inconvenience especially in wide distributed areas.
4.Software upgrade based on C/S structure is heavy work.
5. High depreciation rate for PC system.
Solution
Server deployment:
1.13 units of DELL 1850 are used as terminal data server clusters.
2. One unit of Xeon3.0G, with Dual CPU and 6 units of Dell 6850 are used as database server. One unit of Xeon3.0G is built in Oracle 10 database.
Thin client Terminal deployment:
1. Start WT5000LX (AMD SC2200, 64M RAM)
2. Start WT5010 (VIA C3 800M, 128M RAM)
Terminal server deployment:
1. Windows 2003
2. Authorization software of terminal server configuration
3. Hospital information system
4. Software tools for Start terminal configuration management
5. Other applications
System topology diagram is shown as below:
Various peripherals are involved, such as dot matrix printer, laser jet printer and USBKEY (especially for hospital usage) and fee displayer in outpatient counter.
Start thin client system expands from the usage of out-patient fee to wide fields –outpatient doctor workstation, queue client side, outpatient laboratory sheet distribution, pharmacy, in-patient nurse workstation ,Electronic Medical Records and so on. After operation for 4 years, the total usage of 600 units Start thin client completely replaces PC in system and meets a lot of requirements of the system.
Benefits of solution
1. MTBF of thin client is much more than that of PC, which reduces the fault rate of system hardware.
2. Software upgrade can be handled remotely, which improves the efficiency of work.

5. Energy saving on electrical power, anti-virus software cost, repurchase hardware and space saving (smart size of thin client), IP fields saving (only one IP address assigned to a terminal server connected with quite a few thin clients)

 
6. Application software: system source can be dynamically assigned according to the requirements of users.
7. Central save of documents in the server.
The problems have been dealt in this system:
1. Out-patient fee show: RDP protocol helps the server to transfer the processed information to the respective devices.
2. Printer management
Two modes for connection of thin clients and printers:
① Printer image via RDP protocol
② Printer share Function via IP
The two modes are both used in this system.
3. Server troubleshoot:
All the terminal servers with dual E-thernet adaptor are under the same condition (hardware and software) .The redundant server could replace the broken one though the same setting of IP address while fault occurs to enable the constant work for a user..

4. Emergent power-off
The terminal server can save the session of each terminal and recover it while powering on again in case missing the data. .
5. Different requirements of users application:
There are three operation modes for different needs:
Desktop mode
Application release mode
Specified application mode
